What Natal Chart Interpretation Actually Involves

A real interpretation starts with the big three (Sun, Moon, and rising sign) but does not stop there. Mercury shows how you think and communicate. Venus shows what you value and how you love. Mars shows how you act and assert yourself. Each of the outer planets, Jupiter through Pluto, adds a slower, generational layer. None of these mean much read alone.

The houses tell you where in life each planet plays out: career, relationships, home, self-image. The aspects, the angles planets make to each other, tell you how they interact: supportively, in tension, or somewhere in between. A Mars square Saturn reads differently than a Mars trine Saturn, even though both involve the same two planets. Interpretation means synthesizing all three layers, planet, house, and aspect, into one reading instead of three separate ones.

Why a Generic Lookup Falls Short

Most free natal chart interpretation tools work like a cookbook: enter your Sun sign, get a paragraph; enter your Moon sign, get another paragraph. Stack enough paragraphs and it feels like a reading. It is not, because it skips the step that actually distinguishes one chart from another: essential dignity, how strong or weak a planet is in the exact sign and degree it occupies in your specific chart.

Two people with Mars in Aries do not have identical Mars placements once you factor in the house it falls in, what it aspects, and how the rest of the chart supports or complicates it. A cookbook interpretation cannot see any of that. It can only tell you what Mars in Aries means in general, which is the same paragraph for everyone with that placement, regardless of the other nine planets in their chart.

The Layer a Free Tool Cannot Add: The Draconic Chart

There is a second gap most natal chart interpretation resources never mention: the natal chart, cast in the tropical zodiac, describes personality and life circumstances. It does not describe the deeper, prior conditioning that the tropical chart lives out day to day. That is the draconic chart, a second chart built from the same birth data but re-anchored to the Moon's North Node, which astrologer María Blaquier has developed as a methodology over 25 years of client work.

Draconic chart interpretation works by overlaying the draconic chart on the natal one and reading the contacts between them: where a draconic planet touches a tropical planet by conjunction or opposition. Those cross-aspects are where the two charts talk to each other, and they are the part no single-chart tool, free or paid, can generate without doing both calculations side by side.
